Trying, Even When
I'm Not Ready

2023 felt like a fresh start — and honestly, nakakatakot. But I chose to try anyway. I said yes to opportunities, joined activities, and slowly learned that kaya ko pala.

College campus life 2023
First year. First steps out of the comfort zone.

Everything was new

Walking into college as a freshman in 2023, the world felt enormous. New campus, new people, new expectations, new version of myself I hadn't figured out yet. Everything was unfamiliar in the best and most unsettling way.

There were days I felt completely out of place — like everyone else had a script and I hadn't been handed mine. But I kept showing up. Because what's the alternative? Go home? No. Try, even when it's uncomfortable.

Hindi siya madali — but doon ko nakita na kaya ko pala. The moment I stopped waiting to feel "ready" and just moved, everything shifted.

Saying yes to things that scared me

I made a quiet decision early in 2023: say yes more than no. Join things. Try out. Show up for opportunities even if I wasn't sure I was qualified. And that decision changed the entire shape of this year.

I joined activities I didn't fully understand yet. I introduced myself to people who intimidated me. I raised my hand in rooms where I wasn't sure I belonged. And slowly, I started to realize — I did belong. I just needed to act like I did first.

What I discovered

The biggest thing 2023 taught me is that readiness is a myth. Nobody feels fully ready for the things that matter. You just decide to move, and readiness builds along the way.

By the end of the year, I wasn't the same person who walked in. I was louder in the right rooms, braver in the right moments, and more certain than ever that trying — even poorly, even uncertainly — is always worth it.
