A bigger seat at the table
2024 was the year I became a board member of our student council — and nothing quite prepares you for that shift. In 2023, I was learning how to exist in new spaces. In 2024, I was being asked to help shape them.
New people, new environment, new expectations. I was suddenly one of the faces that others looked to for direction, for answers, for leadership. And honestly? That weight hit different. It wasn't suffocating — but it wasn't light either.
Showing up is a decision. It sounds simple, but on the hard days — the ones where you're exhausted and uncertain and wondering if you're doing anything right — choosing to show up anyway is everything.
The things I handled
I handled projects. Hosted events. Represented our college in competitions. Each one taught me something different — about logistics, about people, about how to hold a room and how to listen in one.
Academics? Surviving, not perfect. I'm not going to pretend I had it all balanced beautifully — I didn't. But I'm proud that I kept going. I didn't use the busyness as an excuse to stop trying in any area of my life.
The lesson I'm keeping
I used to think leadership was about being confident all the time. 2024 taught me otherwise. Leadership is about choosing to act even in the absence of confidence. It's about showing up — not perfectly, but consistently.
I didn't quit. That's the thing I'm most proud of from this year. Not a trophy, not a grade — just the fact that I stayed.
